Another poll

ADDITION:
*****FOR SOME REASON POLLPUB ISN'T WORKING. LEAVE A COMMENT IF YOU WOULD TELLING ME WHICH ONE YOU WOULD VOTE FOR - I DON"T CARE IF YOU ARE A BLOG STALKER! I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU*****

So, you all probably know I live with Eric's parents at the moment. I have an amazing relationship with both my MIL & FIL. They are the most easy-going, fun, generous, caring in-laws EVER. At this point they are going to have to kick us out because I'm not sure it will be very easy to leave!! But on to the poll. Regardless of our great relationship I have only ever called them by their first names (mainly because if I ever started calling them mom & dad I think Dean would get a slight bit offended) and it hasn't really been a big deal. I am wondering if this is becoming the norm. My older sister calls her in-laws mom & dad and I know my parents and Eric's parents call their in-laws mom & dad as well, so has it all gone by the wayside for our age group? Please indulge me by voting, I have always wondered if I am the only one doing this.

PollPub.com VoteHow do you all address your MIL/FIL?
I call them both mom & dad.
I use their first names only.
I call my MIL mom, but call my FIL by his first name.
I call my MIL by her first name but call my FIL dad.
I have no in-laws.

I would call them Mom and Dad but I don't know if they would prefer that or not. What do you think? Should I call him Jeff or dad? Or should I call her mom or Eve

I use first names for both. So does Derrick.

I don't think any of the bro-in-laws call my parents Mom and Dad. I guess you would have to ask them what they prefer, but you would be the first!!

I'm on first names basis with my in laws, as is Brandon is with mine. Why should I call them Mom and Dad? They're not my Mom and Dad! That'd be weird!

definitely by the first name. I just think it would be wierd! I think it also depends on what your inlaws call their inlaws, that kind of sets the rule for me!

We both use first names. I think it would be wierd to call them mom and dad, although Mike's parents said I can call them whatever I want to.

I use the first names, but it took me years of dancing around the names altogether and experimenting between Mom/Dad and Jan/John before I finally just picked one and stuck with it. When signing emails and cards they jump back and forth between the different monikers for themselves, too.

I chose first names because that's how Paul addresses all of my parents.

first names. but sometimes when i'm referring to samantha (in talking to one of her actual children) or talking to her, i'll call her mom. vance is ALWAYS vance.

this is interesting to read. i would have thought that most people called their in-laws mom & dad.

I call my MIL and FIL Steve and Julie, and if I think about Kc calling mom and dad- mom and dad it sounds too strange.

Andrew calls my parents by their first names. I feel weird so I just wait until I have their attention and then I just start talking!! HEE HEE!

The day we were married, I called my FIL by his first name and he said, "Call me Dad". EEK, I couldn't and still haven't. I call them by their first names...Rod calls my parents by their first names also.

First names-all the way! It is an interesting observation, though. I think using the first names is more formal. And lately, I notice my parents, when they call THEY say their first names, "Hi Liz, this is Marilyn." or "Hi Liz, this is Larry." Talk about weird, but that's a whole nother story!

We do first names. Anything else would just be weird.

john uses mom & dad for my parents. not really sure why...and i think they were a bit taken aback when he started doing it. but now we're all used to it. i call his parents by their first names, but it gets tricky because when they call they say.."hi meka, it's mom (or dad)." and then i say "oh hi, anne."

awkward.

First names only. Mom and Dad sounds and feels weird. Jeremy uses first names too. But I do have a brother in law that no one in our family can stand and he calls my parents Mom and Dad. Everyone (including my parents) just roll their eyes. No one likes it.
