First for everything

2:30 Ethan comes home from school.
2:31 Ethan announces that he's hungry.
2:32 Test, 98.
2:38 Ethan decides he wants two apples cut up with peanut butter, a fruit by the foot and a protein shake. (He had "lunch" at school at 11)
3:30 Cohen wakes up from his nap.
3:40 We're out in the front yard riding skateboards and drawing with sidewalk chalk.
3:45 Cohen announces that he's hungry. He has a protein shake and a fruit by the foot.
3:45:20 Ethan announces that he is once again hungry and that he wants another fruit by the foot.
3:45:30 I say NO. You just had one an hour ago.
3:45:45 Crying begins. No tears, just lots of wwwwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.
3:45:50 Ethan beings pleading. But I want one. Mom, can I have one? Mom?
3:46 NOOOOOOOOO. Ethan goes inside.
3:48 Cohen and I draw a little more and then I start to clean up. I think my face was getting burnt.
3:53 I walk inside, Ethan is sitting on the couch with a fruit by the foot wrapper at his feet. **you would think he would be smart enough to hide the evidence but since this is the first time this has ever happened I guess he hasn't quite figured that out.
3:54 Ethan did you eat a fruit by the foot?
3:54:15 Um, yes, cause I really wanted one.
3:54:25 And I really want you to go to your room. NOW.
3:54:40 Crying begins, even a nice fall to the floor for added effect.
3:55 Door slams.

This really is the first time he has ever snuck food behind my back. I guess it's always possible he's done it before but this was after me telling him no way jose. I hate that he can't eat whatever he wants when he wants but come one - he had just had two apples, a protein shake and a fbtf. Boys.

BFF

I just woke up from a dream that involved me being Jennifer Garner's BFF. Now for a long time I have felt like her and I could be BFF's if we ever met in real life. Don't judge me for having these thoughts, I'm no stalker, I don't have pictures of her in my bedroom - I'm not even a fan of hers on facebook. I just think based on the fact that she named her dog Martha Stewart that we COULD be BFF's. In the dream I was helping her plan her wedding ...what any good BFF would do.

We waited in a parking garage for 1.5 hours and all we got was this lousy cd.

Last week Cortney, Diane and I went to see the Ellen show. The tickets were really easy to get. Apparently, they've gotten harder now that she's been on Idol, but I requested them before Idol started. It was fun to go - Ellen seemed tired. She did her usual dance - which brought her right next to Diane on the aisle. And can I just say, she is tiny. The bachelor and his new fiance were there. He is weird, creepy and inappropriate. Vienna is a total ditz. One redeeming feature was that she had the good sense to get her roots done. Ellen had no patience for her which made me laugh. I didn't watch this season of the bachelor and I'm now happy with my decision. Simon Baker was there too - never watched his tv show either. We were hoping to score some serious loot but it didn't happen. We did walk away with this cd from this guy I've never heard of - it's still in it's original condition, shrink wrapped.
Can you see Diane on the far right? My sliver of a head is to the left next to Cortney.

Snow weekend

Here are some pictures from our trip with my sister Emily's family to Park City a few weeks ago. Sorry it's taken a while, I was waiting for said sister to send me her photos. I wasn't able to take very many because I was trying to ski Ethan and Cohen down a hill.

Cohen was pro from the very first run. He just kept those skis parallel and zoomed down, knowing Dad had him if he fell. His favorite part was the chair lift - he wanted to get down the hill as fast as he could just to go on it again.

Shelby, Ethan & Sam grabbing some lunch at the lodge.

Cohen, walking around with his hat pulled over his eyes - entertaining most of the lodge eaters. He reminded me of that kid with the bucket on his head in the movie Parenthood. Crazy coco.

Sledding out in back of the condo.

Wish upon a moon?

Anybody see this last night? Too bad I don't have an 800mm lens - I could have gotten even closer.

Learn something new everyday

Adrenalin affects blood sugar WAY more than I thought.

We went to Park City again this past weekend to hand out with my oldest sister and her family. Eric and I thought it would be fun to try and teach the boys to ski. Ummmmm, fun isn't the right word. Let's just say it wasn't all smiles. More like snot, tears, and flailing limbs. Ethan's a nervous kid to begin with. He's very quiet and thinks to himself a lot when he is scared. From the moment we got to the ski resort his boots hurt, his skis were too slippery and his nose was cold. He also wasn't pleased to see that he would have to sit on an exposed chair that dangles by a rope about 100 feet above ground. Teaching him to trust his skis was the biggest challenge. It didn't click in his head that by doing a snow plow he would slow down. Instead he would just fall and then start freaking out. A few times he was great - no issues - but then he would forget for a second and come to the realization that he was headed straight for a tree!!! We stuck to the bunny hill for the most part of the day but after lunch we decided to go up the Payday lift for a longer ride down. Big mistake. Ethan's number was fine at lunch, and I corrected him like I should. But then, the Payday lift. It's a high-speed six person lift that moves faster and a lot higher than the one he was used to. When at the top the runs were narrower and some of them led to steep, tree ridden runs that he was convinced I would make him go down. His adrenaline took over and the panic set in. We were still on "green" runs, but it was all just too much. There was no getting through to him that it was just like the bunny hill. Amazingly, we made it down and all he could do was talk about how much he needed a diet coke. Haha. But he was kinda right, his number was 500. So frustrating. That run would have been a cake walk if it weren't for a little something called adrenaline. I've often wondered why professional athletes inject insulin during their games (because normally exercise would require to ingest sugar) and it all makes sense now, adrenaline. 5+ years he's had this and I am still trying to figure it out. What's most frustrating is that there will probably be many more trips to go skiing and all he is going to remember is this first experience. I know Eric will remind me that we should have done ski school, but I don' think it would have ended any different. Live and learn...
